Paul V. Hartelius III
About the Artist
Paul, a New Jersey native and the son of two successful commercial artists, has been surrounded by art his entire life, but no formal training or art courses were ever pursued. Art and photography were favorite activities, but when it came time to select a career path, Paul chose civil engineering rather than follow in his parents’ footsteps.
Following a 40-year engineering career, Paul retired in 2011 and joined the Pine Shores Art Association in Manahawkin where he finally has time to explore and develop his lifelong art interests in addition to serving in numerous capacities on PSAA’s Board of Directors including serving as the Association’s President (2015-16). His works, primarily watercolors and oil paintings of landscapes and maritime themes, have won numerous awards and have been displayed in dozens of shows in local Ocean County venues and galleries.
Statement:
The Jersey shore and coastal Maine have been part of my life since early childhood and strongly influence my artistic expression preference. If I can’t be in a boat on the water, or able to walk the shoreline, painting or sketching these images is a close second, and my hope is to engage those who view my art by conveying my passion and appreciation for the rich maritime culture.
